Reduced Fees for Home User Subscriptions
Astaro has been offering the base level components of Astaro Security Linux for up to 10 users at no cost for home users for personal, non-commercial and non-revenue generating use in a private home. This base license includes the firewall, VPN Gateway, management platform, reporting, and Spam Protection subscription.
In recognition of the contribution of home users in testing, supporting and recommending our software, Astaro would like to make it even easier for home users to utilize the Astaro Security Linux subscriptions. Through September 30, 2004:
- One year of the Intrusion Protection subscription will be included with the Astaro Security Linux V5 home user license at no cost.
- For a total cost of €59, home users will be able to license the three other subscriptions (Virus Protection for Email, Virus Protection for the Web, and Surf Protection) for one year.
The V4 subscriptions were €49 each, so €59 for three V5 subscriptions is a significant cost reduction.
After September 30, the Intrusion Protection subscription will be included in the €59 subscription bundle.
The home user version of Astaro Security Linux V5 including Intrusion Protection, and the home user subscription bundle, will be available on MyAstaro (https://my.astaro.com) some time on the week of April 19. A 30-day trial version of Astaro Security Linux is also available at this site.
Change in the Role of the Power User
With Astaro Security Linux V4, some home users found themselves restricted by the limitation of the V4 home user license to 3 NICs and 5 SMTP domains. Astaro created a “Power Home User” license without those limitations to help these people.
Now, the Astaro Security Linux V5 home user license does not place any restrictions on NICs or SMTP domains. The only limitations are 10 users and 2,000 concurrent connections, which should be sufficient for home use. Therefore, there is no longer a technical need for a special Power Home User license.
However, Astaro would still like to recognize people who make a significant contribution to the development and use of Astaro Security Linux.
Therefore we would like to provide the home user subscription bundle (€59) at no cost to home users who have a history of active, visible participation on the Astaro UBB, including valuable input regarding bug reports, and who have generally supported the UBB on an on-going basis.
If you have a V4 Power Home User license, or believe that you qualify as a power user for your active, valuable participation in the UBB, please check this UBB thread on April 19 for a Power Home User application form.
